The Harlem Digital Renaissance is HERE.
Who am I? I'm Giveton, a trumpeter born in Nassau. I studied with Dr. Eddie Henderson at the Oberlin Conservatory and received recognition at the Young Arts Foundation and Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program. After that, I continued my studies at the Juilliard School and graduated in June 2021.
In just three years, I've had the opportunity to play with some of the greatest pioneers of the NY jazz scene like Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Bobby Watson, Sullivan Fortner, Wynton Marsalis, Ben Wolfe, and Jon Batiste.
Roy Hargrove was my mentor and I'm so grateful for everything he taught me.
I’m honored to have studied and learned from and with all of these historic, pivotal figures of music and culture.
In 2020, I released my debut album, True Design, which received critical acclaim from Jazziz, WBGO, Jazz FM UK, and many more. I was also honored to receive the 2020 LetterOne Rising Star Jazz Award and ASCAP's Herb Alpert Award.
Most recently, I co-won the DC Prix at the 2021 DC Jazz Fest.
What is InTheShed.Live?
Built by proud Juilliard alumnus's and university music educators - we’ve got a few things to say about jazz education.
This is a stance to cushion against the teaching found in many music schools.
With our innovative approach, you'll learn music from the rhythm and ground up - to bring people together through the universal language of music.
Most schools simply don’t provide musicians the real insights and perspectives required to play this music at a highly creative level, rather than a highly athletic level of homework and assignment angst.
Join us on this journey of creating and sharing meaningful music with our talented instructors and community.
